Welcome to The Greater New Orleans Drum Corps Association Web site. The purpose of GNODCA is to preserve and build on the great tradition of the drum and bugle corps activity; to appropriately represent the greater New Orleans area as well as Louisiana, the United States and the drum and bugle corps activity worldwide; and to stimulate interest in the study and teaching of music and the arts.


2013 Norco Christmas Parade

Echoes will be appearing in The Norco Christmas Parade in Norco, LA on Sunday, December 1st, 2013. See Echoes Parade page for additional information


2013 Christmas Music Rehearsals

Echoes has scheduled 2 Christmas Music Rehearsals on October 27, 2013 and November 17, 2013 in anticipation on booking a few Christmas events like The Norco Christmas Parade (12/1/13) and others. Additional information is posted on the Echoes Events page and will be updated as plans are finalized.

If you have a trumpet or other brass instrument, please bring it. We also may get a chance to play with our own Crescent City Cadets.


2014 GNODCA ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING AND BOARD NOMINATION

Please join us for our Annual Business Meeting on October 18, 2013 to St. Francis Xavier School.  In addition to the business portion of the night, we will be having a Pot Luck Dinner.  Please bring your favorite dish to share.  See earlier web post for more details. 

The following have accepted nominations for the 2 open positions on the GNODCA Board:

Mark Manguno:

Mark Manguno marched soprano bugle with the Bleu Raeders and Regiment Militaire in 1973 and 1974.  He’s been an avid fan since that time, traveling with family and friends to see most of DCI’s major events each summer.  He’s been a Friend of DCI since 1985.

Mark has been a member and the Treasurer for the GNODCA Board since its inception in 2004.  Mark proves to be an asset to the Board.

Mark is Corporate Secretary of The Gray Insurance Company, where he has worked since 1978.

David Callway:

David Callaway marched with the Stardusters from 1979-1980 and was an assistant drum instructor for the Southernaires from 1981-1982, including the year they won the DCI Class A National Championship.

David has been serving on the GNODCA Board since its inception in 2004. He is Chairman of the Tuition Assistance Program, in addition to serving on the Fundraising Committee, co-leading the Jazz Fest fundraiser.
He has proven to be an asset in these positions.

GNODCA'S ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING - OCTOBER 18, 2013

This is to announce that GNODCA's Annual Business Meeting will be held on Friday, October 18, 2013 from 7:00 -10:00 pm. This will be a pot luck dinner (BYOL), like we've done in the past. So, please bring your favorite dish along with you. It will be held at St. Francis Xavier School, 215 Betz Place, Metairie, LA 70005 off of Metairie Road. GNODCA Members an opportunity to be more for the Association.

Two Board Members will be elected for 3-year terms at this year's meeting. A candidate for a 3-year term must have previously served on the board in either an elected, ex-officio or appointed position. The Board meets every other month and facilitates the operation of GNODCA, including funding and performances. All eligible members will have an opportunity to vote on the nominees at this meeting on October 18, 2013. Please note that only paid-up Regular Members, 18 or older, in good standing for at least one year are considered voting members. If you cannot make the meeting and would like to participate in the election, please mail or email your proxy vote with your dues so that they may be received before the meeting (please include your name, phone number, vote and signature). Membership dues should be paid by the first day of the fiscal year, October 1. However, we will be happy to accept them at the Annual Business Meeting or you may mail them to our Post Office Box listed below. If your dues are not received by November 1, you will lose your eligibility to vote in next year's elections. Please make sure you get your dues in on time.

DCI World Championship Prelims

The Drum Corps International World Championships will return cinemas on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 5:30 p.m. (CT) for "Big, Loud & Live 10." Don't miss your chance to see this 10th annual movie theater broadcast capturing the complete performances of the top 15 corps during the World Championship Prelims, along with highlights of corps that have performed earlier in the day. Expected Run Time: 5 hours 15 minutes.

2013 Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)

The Greater New Orleans Drum Corps Association is happy to announce that the GNODCA Tuition Assistance Program has been renewed for the upcoming 2013 drum corps season, with one exciting change to the program. Applications are now open to all students marching in any competitive junior drum corps. For the 2013 season, awards in the amount of $500 each will be given to three members of any competitive junior drum and bugle corps.

CRESCENT CITY COLOR GUARD 2013 WINTER GUARD SCHEDULE

Our Crescent City Color Guard will be competing in several "Louisiana Color Guard and Percussion Circuit" and "Winter Guard International" Competitions this 2013 Winter Season. Please take time and support our unit. The Winter Guard Circuits provide a musical and visual indoor winter show season while allowing members to hone their craft for the regular Drum & Bugle Corps seasons.

For the first time the GNODCA, Crescent City Color Guard will be hosting the "Magic Invitational" Guard Show on January 26, 2013 at Denham Springs High School in Denham Springs LA. Volunteers needed.

Crescent City Cadets 2013 Performance Season

Our Crescent City Cadets will be performing in several, Louisiana Color Guard and Percussion Circuit, and Old Metairie Fest Events this 2013 Season. Please take time and support our unit. The Color Guard and Percussion Circuit provides a musical and visual indoor winter show season while allowing members to hone their craft for the regular Drum & Bugle Corps seasons. More information on our guard and events can be found at CCC and LCGPC. Our Cadets will be performing exhibitions at the following events:

March 16, 2013 - Denham Springs High School Competition

March 23, 2013 - Dutchtown High School Competition

April 6, 2013 - LCGPC Championships in Hammond, LA

April 13, 2012 - At Old Metairie Fest (at St. Francis Xavier School)

2013 Crescent City Color Guard Season

The staff and members have been working hard behind the scenes to make 2013 a memorable season for Crescent City Color Guard. Also, the Crescent City Color Guard will be hosting a Louisiana Color Guard and Percussion Circuit, Color Guard Show on January 26, 2013 at Denham Springs High School. ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING AND BOARD ELECTIONS

The Greater New Orleans Drum Corps Association's Annual Business Meeting was held on October 20, 2012 at St. Francis Xavier School. Summaries of Fiscal Year 2012 Accomplishments and Committee Reports were given. Unfortunately, the Director for the Percussion Unit will not be able to continue; therefore, we will not have a competition Percussion unit until we find another Director. If you have any suggestions, please contact John Weidman drumcorps@gnodca.org or 1-866-734-5264. The annual GNODCA Board of Directors elections were held. Mark Rivero was elected again to re-join the Board, and Babette Staunton was re-elected to continue on the Board. Nita Addotto, David Callaway, Jon de Silva, Mark Manguno and John Weidman will also continue their terms on the FY 2013 Board. There are two openings for Board Appointed members, if you have any suggestions, please contact John Weidman or a Board Member.

The First Board of Directors Meeting for the Fiscal Year was held on November 28, 2012. The Board elected the Executive Board. Elroy Ingersoll will continue as the GNODCA Executive Director, John Weidman as the Board President, Mark Manguno as the Board Treasurer and Babette Staunton as the Board Secretary.

Just a few things that are happening this year: Our Crescent City Color Guard and our Crescent City Cadets are working hard learning and polishing their shows for this year's Winter Guard season. Also, our Echoes of New Orleans Drum and Bugle Corps performed in the Norco Christmas Parade. Keep an eye on the website for the practice announcement for the Mardi Gras Season.
